Frequently Asked Questions About Wrist Support

Q1. What do wrist wraps do during weightlifting?

A1. Wrist wraps stabilise the wrist joint during pressing movements (bench press, overhead press, push press) where the wrist is subjected to extension forces under heavy loads. They prevent the wrist from bending backward excessively, reducing discomfort and injury risk while allowing you to lift heavier loads with proper wrist alignment.

Q2. What is the difference between flexible and stiff wrist wraps?

A2.Flexible wrist wraps (like the Hack Athletics Flexible model) allow natural wrist movement while providing light to moderate support — ideal for Olympic lifting, CrossFit, and exercises requiring wrist mobility. Stiff wrist wraps provide maximum rigidity and are preferred for bench press and overhead press where the wrist should be locked in a neutral position under maximum loads.

Q3. How long should wrist wraps be?

A3. Hack Athletics wrist wraps are 24 inches long — the standard competition length that provides 2–3 full wraps around the wrist joint for secure support. Shorter wraps (12–18 inches) are lighter and easier to use but provide less support. 24-inch wraps are recommended for serious weightlifting and powerlifting use.

Q4. Why do wrist wraps have thumb loops?

A4. The thumb loop holds the wrap in position while you wind it around the wrist — preventing the wrap from slipping down as you apply it. Once the wrap is secure around the wrist, the thumb loop can be left inside (tucked under the wrap) or left out during the set per personal preference. Many lifters remove the thumb from the loop once the wrap is applied.

Q5. Should wrist wraps be used for every exercise?

A5. No. Wrist wraps should be used primarily for heavy pressing movements (bench press, overhead press, push press) and any exercise where wrist stability under load is a concern. Avoid using them for exercises where developing natural wrist stability is part of the training goal. Over-reliance on wrist wraps without developing underlying wrist strength is counterproductive long-term.

Q6. Can wrist wraps help with wrist pain during lifting?

A6. Wrist wraps can help manage mild wrist discomfort caused by improper wrist positioning or temporary strain during pressing. However, they are not a substitute for medical evaluation of wrist injuries. If you experience persistent wrist pain during lifting, consult a physiotherapist or sports medicine physician before continuing training.

Q7. What is the return policy for Hack Athletics wrist wraps?

A7. Hack Athletics offers free returns within 7 days of delivery for unused items in original packaging. For warranty claims on manufacturing defects, contact hello@hack-enterprises.com with your order number within 30 days of purchase.
